Disabled Yachtsman Keith White Ends His Journey In Saint Maarten

At about 11pm GMT on the 9 Jan 2016, Keith White arrived safely in Saint Maarten to end his World Challenge attempt to sail single-handed non-stop around the world. He was welcomed by friends and about 200 people at the quay side. After steering by hand for hundreds of miles he’s obviously tired and a little thin! But he’s now quote safe and will return to fight another day.

More later.

About the Author:

Keith lives on the Isle of Wight and is an accomplished solo offshore Yachtsman. He lost the use of his left arm in a motorway accident in 1991, so he really is your genuine single handed yachtsman. What is incredible is that not only has his disability not prevented him from living his dreams, it’s spurred him on to better things. In 2015 he takes on the pinnacle of solo sailing by sailing single-handed and non stop around the world in his World Challenge.

I would not even have attempted what you have succeeded at. Seriously, this is a huge achievement regardless of not being even on the list of goals when you set out. And there’s a bonus, too. You get to see places!!

Keith. it’s good news that you are safe and at long last on dry land, it’s also heart warming to know that there were 200 friends and public to greet you. Now’s the time to take a well earned rest and make repairs at your leisure ready for your return home. You’ve overcome many obstacles set before you during this world challenge and there are a lot of people who are full of admiration that you’ve handled this with professionalism and determination. Enjoy your well deserved rest in the sunshine Keith, look forward to speaking with you very soon my friend!!!

    Best Wishes

Glad you’re in port Keith. I know there’s nothing I can say to stop you feeling disappointed, but that feeling will not be shared by the rest of us. You are mad but my life is made richer by having you in it. Looking forward to seeing you sometime.

Great news to know you are safe. Congrats and best of luck next time. Don’t get disheartened . You have huge success even though your round the world singlehanded was scuppered by bad weather.

ahhhh thank goodness! Right, as you know or may have figured out by now, I am not very good at the sailing thing and I am also pretty crap at the whole tecno follow the tracker thing…… when I checked last night it looked to me like you had run aground in Puerto Rico and so I was worried sick! This morning I showed my son and he showed me how to ZOOM out……………and realised YOU MADE IT! Then checked to see if there was news…… I am so Glad your not in Puerto Rico and so glad you are with friends and 200 more friends! Keith everyone has said it, and you do know it in yourself so there is no need for me to say it again. My dear freind and Neighbour, sleep as much as you need, enjoy the beautiful beach, the wonderful food and even some summer fun. and then and only after you get bored of all of that, should you work on the boat. As I type the cold rain is hitting the window….. so you come back when you can bring the sun with you! Enjoy Keith, live, laugh and relax, you deserve it! tamara and the hounds!

PS: My son not only showed me how to zoom out I got a lecture on how trackers work and the curvature of the planet………… 🙁
